ExxFire

Bespoke sheet metal enclosures to encase a unique fire detection and suppression system that safeguards business-critical objects was the order of the day for Yorkshire Laser from ExxFire.

The challenge:

Netherlands-based ExxFire specialise in fire detection and suppression systems that safeguard business-critical objects. They needed to develop bespoke sheet metal enclosures to box a new fire detection system used by the European Space Agency and Siemens.

The unique ExxFire system uses non-pressurised stored nitrogen in a solid state inside a Cool Gas Generator. When a fire is detected, the nitrogen is released from the Generator and directed inside the protected area to lower oxygen levels and suppress the fire immediately without damage to the hardware. The system is low maintenance and self-checks any faults as they occur.

The solution:

ExxFire approached Yorkshire Laser and Fabrication to work with them on designing and developing the enclosures. Initially Yorkshire Laser manufactured and supplied the parts for the boxes to house the ExxFire system which ExxFire then assembled. As demand for the system increased, we moved on to part-assembling the enclosures ready for ExxFire to simply insert the electronics and Cool Gas Generators.

The result:

What they said:

“ExxFire is a unique system used in mission critical sectors such as energy, automotive, aerospace and IT. Yorkshire Laser have been reliable, flexible, fast and their quality is consistent which is vital in our industry and what we needed in a production partner. They add value by offering expertise to improve our product as we scale up to develop more international markets.”
