Together Vamoose Camper Conversions and Yorkshire Laser have been ensuring a good night's sleep for campers.
Recognising there was a need for a more superior, substantial and easier to manoeuvre camping van bed than the traditional ‘rock ‘n’ roll’ design, Vamoose Camper Conversions had come up with their own reclining van bed system known as the Bedrock.
Armed with a self-assembled mock-up and some sketches, the small family-run company that specialises in luxury camper conversions and roof elevations on a range of Volkswagen vans, approached Yorkshire Laser.
They wanted a high-quality product which was easy to use, offered the choice of upright, reclined or lay flat ability and met strict EC directives.
Yorkshire Laser’s CAD design experts worked closely with Vamoose to help develop the design of the bed based on a high-quality sliding mechanism and, through the magic of computer aided manufacturing (CAM), produced a working prototype.
This protype went through full rigorous crash testing by the Specialist Transport Advisory and Testing Utility Society (STATUS) at Manchester University, RDW in Holland and the TUV in Germany. It passed first time and received safety certification in line with he EU directive 76/115/EC regulation 14.07.
Yorkshire Laser now produces the parts of the bed and supplies to Vamoose to fit primarily in the Volkswagen T4, T5 and T6 camper vans.
Providing the sheet metal prototyping services was also to be the start of a long and successful working relationship between the two companies. They continued to work together on developing the bed to product models to fit both left- and right-hand drive vehicles, a full-width three-seater version and an electric powered version for even easier operation.
Yorkshire Laser also manufactures many other specialist parts for Vamoose such as awning brackets, roof keeps, roof rack components and the integral strengthening frames for their crash tested elevating roof systems
